He is much like an ant assuming there is nothing beyond what is visible from the top of its own little hill.

As Earthlings, we are familiar with the composition of mineral, vegetable, and animal matter, because these are things we have been taught to recognize with our five carnal senses. Matter is tangible and explainable, and what fun we have probing nature's secrets in this manner.

If we dissected the head of a human cadaver, we would find no little space where the spiritual mind was located. Rather, Its power permeates our being, and on its departure leaves no evidence that this creature, homo sapiens, had been anything more than the product of the animal kingdom.

Many years ago, man thought of the liver as being the seat of the emotions, today, valentine cards suggest that the heart has a hand in these matters, though we know perfectly well that these organs, like any others, act on orders received from the mind. Therefore, when speaking of the Spiritual Mind, we are speaking of an inner power which is not of the flesh; yet because it exerts its influence on the fleshy mind in the manner illustrated, the head seems as good a place as any to use as a demonstration of spiritual thought process.

Again we are forced to use a parable for interpretation; how-ever, in a later chapter explaining the Aura, it will be clearly seen how this magnetism surrounds man.

Spirit is not confined to homo sapiens. Animal types on other planets have been brought into the Universal Family and have been blessed by The Master with spirit.

On each of these planets, the life-forms have been governed by the conditions existing on these planets; atmosphere, temperature, etc., and, in all probability the results of evolutionary advancement have produced specimens nothing whatsoever like mankind in terms of external appearance. Yet the spirit in these creatures is the same as the spirit in man -- pure and incorruptible.

Had Deity not given man a sublime thought process, our animal instincts would be the only rule of conduct on Earth. The most aggressive would dominate and the weaker would be kept in slavery and servitude, as was the case in the early days of spiritual guidance.

The spiritual mind is in direct opposition to the animal mind. The spirit is never self-seeking -- it seeks ways to serve others. The spirit can think in no other terms than those of virtue and integrity. It takes pride only in the knowledge that it is performing Omniscient Will to the best of its ability.

Having developed the inner power, one has all wealth. There-fore one seeks for the animal self only those things necessary for the body's well-being; nothing superfluous is desired. The spirit in each wants to help its fellow spiritual beings to this state of supreme content.

The spiritually-guided do not wander through life doubtfully, but press ever upward with quiet confidence, ever willing to share this glow of knowledge with less fortunate fellow travellers. With the inner power one is never too proud to "wash the feet" of those who stumble along the way, to succour the "least of these" and thereby serve Him also.

Mankind has to recognize that all the benefits the human race has gained from the time of Adam are the direct result of divine intervention. Man's social progress has come, not through animal knowledge, but through imitation of the true wisdom of the spiritual mind.

Jesus Christ came to demonstrate to mankind how we are each possessed of a portion of God's substance, and has nothing to do with the carnal part of man which can be removed and chemically analyzed, and which is shed on passing over. The Master, starting with Adam, has given to each and every mortal a spirit, a shadow of Himself, of His Power, invisible to the eye.

God does not have arms and legs or an animal form. It is not the body that is in His Image, it is the pure, infinite power of Divine Presence within us -- our promise of immortality.

Prior to receiving spirit, mankind had, as we have illustrated, a conscious and preconscious mind capable of like and dislike and of storing knowledge. The height of evolutionary achievement, nevertheless, was entirely animal. Then came Adam, with not only the conscious and preconscious mind, but the spiritual mind also, operating thus:

Impressions received through the five senses are relayed to the preconscious mind to be filtered through all the prior associations filing system, analyzed, stored for reference, and action orders given.

If it is uncluttered and operating freely, the spiritual mind adds its weight to the decisions rendered, being able to speak freely and directly to the conscious, but it encounters a hopeless maze of intrigue when the message circuit is completed by the only possible return route via the preconscious animal mind, which is so lost in its own erroneous thinking that it grasps this message and calls the thought its own.

For example, let's assume the cashier in a store gives Mrs. Doe two dollars too much in her change, which Mrs. Doe immediately returns before fully realizing what she has done. In other words, the conscious has acted on an impulse (thought message) from the spiritual mind; but then, as Mrs. Doe walks back to her car, she might start to think, "That was pretty nice of me to give back the money; the girl would never have noticed if I had kept it." As often as not the incident would be stored for repetition to Mr. Doe, or to the girls at the bridge club, just to make sure that everyone would be impressed with Mrs. Doe's honesty. By the time the story had gone the rounds the original two dollars could easily have been magnified to $5.OO!

On the other hand, if the same incident happened to Mrs. Smith, though her first impulse might be to return the money, she might on second thought decide to retain it for herself, perhaps with the justification "A big store like this won't miss the money -- it will just come out of their income tax or advertising expenses, and I can use it well."

This is because the preconscious in some people is jealous; wanting to boost its Ego with a feeling of self-righteousness, it says: "This good thought has come from me, how good I am." In others, the preconscious discards the spiritual thought as not in keeping with self-interest, and in each case a "brick" is plastered on top of previous "bricks" to impede the free passage of spiritual thought.

Thus many adults are in spiritual infancy, and as such will ascend to the Master, making the mistake of thinking they are good, when spirit alone is good. Flesh is animal, and not capable of being either good or bad. Spirit can differentiate without bias and, having one origin, makes of men spiritual brothers and sisters, knowing no race or creed, only love of truth and humanity. It makes us all the equal children of Immortality.

Forgiveness by one man of another, is among our finest spiritual qualities. To experience this joy of true forgiveness makes our Earthbound soul one in thought with its Creator, who has so much more to forgive in each of us.

"Forgive them Father, they know not what they do," were Jesus' words from the cross, provides an example of perfect love transcending the carnal mind and casting out fear. He was sorrowing to realize the awful price His persecutors would have to pay for their error, knowing the inability of mortal strength to harm Him though His "house" be shattered:

Any ill will harboured in the mind harms not the person against whom it is directed; it merely cripples the clear thinking and the purity of the mind of the instigator.

As from a humanitarian viewpoint one might cringe with sympathy for the bull's torments in a bullfight, from the spiritual eye tears of pity flow for the matador, exalting in his triumph, whose spirit must pay the price, the full price for inflicting senseless pain on another, whether the subject be of his own species or any other animal form.

Tremble for the cruel, who must later suffer the agonies of remorse.

Man's inner power is fed by the strength of the heavenly host in the following manner. As much love as a man's soul releases to his fellows, so it is returned in full measure and more by Spirit. The man's capacity for insight is developed in accordance with the amount of exercise he permits his finer qualities.

The man so dominated by materialism that his spiritual self is grossly impoverished can only begin to acquire strength in this manner and garner for himself a storehouse of eternal riches. Learning to give more and more, he will receive more and yet more, creating an ever-widening circle of wisdom and love.

There is no way to hide the strength of power that is within, and so shall spiritual character be recognized by those who are spiritually dominated.

It has been explained how the incarnate mind can place thoughts directly into the conscious mind for action; how the conscious acts like a puppet master, operating the nervous system as a puppeteer pulls the strings. The inner goodwill of this spiritual mind commands the conscious to give joyous greeting to all, and this is the origin of the spiritual smile; effortless, sincere, beaming with fraternity, reflecting its Creator. This is the smile that hovers over the features when the animal has very nearly run its course and the spirit is joyfully preparing to wend its way homeward, knowing that its work on Earth has been well done.

Spiritual ascendency is joy everlasting, spirit is meek, patient, slow to anger. Truly it is written in Matthew 5:5; "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth."

To be meek is to be without arrogance, cynicism, or selfish-ness. In humility this person accepts equality with fellow spiritual beings, knowing that others are no better or worse than they, but merely have been trained differently. Spirit is reverent before its Creator, recognizing the All-Supremity of the Sovereign, acknowledging Infinite Power and Glory.

There is no wrath that meekness cannot turn aside, returning loving understanding to those who would harm the body. The unsophisticated are easily led into the paths of righteousness, rendering unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, yet having within a powerhouse of strength, capable of being aroused to defend to the bitter end of animal life Honour, Integrity, and the Word of the Master, daring always to do that which is right and pleasing in his sight.

Never Alone.

The spiritually-dominated never walk alone, a fact well known to all who walk thus. Having broken through the barriers of carnal ignorance and error to release the inner power, and having fed that spark, Eternal help is further given in the form of a spiritual companion or angel, to watch over that person and guide him. To become his individual link with the heavenly host. There is a great deal of proof to support this fact throughout the world today, with further irrefutable argument recorded in our scriptures and world history. That the substance of spirit is invisible to Earthlings is neither here nor there. Actually a spiritual guide does not impose its will, yet in many ways communicates with its charge, premonitions being the most usual form of advice and warning of imminent danger. However, when one's inner power is sufficiently free to confront natural instinct, the guide becomes more active, less of a silent partner, becoming both guardian and advisor -- a still, small voice within, directing one heavenward.

Even in the spirit world no two are exactly alike; there is the spice of variety. The most "evil" (erroneous) man can have a very active spirit within him banging away at his conscience trying to gain recognition. (Mrs. Smith, who kept the two dollars, might wonder why she suffers terribly from nervous headaches.) The spirit can be of a quite different "personality" to its animal counter-part, evidenced by the large sums of money paid out in "conscience money," and the "upright" man living a life of personal selfishness, yet each of these men may be aware of the bright spark of self-criticism whispering deep within, and may have a sense of the presence of the Living God.

Spiritual guardians, then, might be of the active, passive, or "in between" variety. This guardian can call for assistance if required, and sometimes, as the charge grows in knowledge and strength, is replaced by a higher level 'power' with superior teaching qualifications.

Never make the mistake of thinking that heavenly guides are interested in the animal man. Spirit is sent to help spirit only, not the chemical wrappings housing their earthbound brothers. The essentials of well-being for each human being, Yes! -- The luxurious trimmings, Never!

In fact, quite recently The Master has mentioned that as a last resort, should the Earthly animal prove too stubborn, He will recall to heaven all spirits contained in the animal body, and there would be a day of judgment. The results of such an event are too awful to fully comprehend. Animal man would slip back to being the savage beast of his pre-spiritual existence, much like our wandering tribes of apes in the jungles today. Nature's law alone would rule; life and death, survival of the fittest.

All that we have that is worth having is the spirit within us, loaned to the animal for a few years as an experience for each to enjoy and profit from. Nature's finest achievement is little more than a lily of a day, rising and falling in continuous streams, furthering the species, and only a fraction less short-lived than a butterfly in terms of eternity.

How is it possible, then, to magnify the stature of the animal with all its pomposity and myopia while ignoring the infinite power within; to starve and imprison the only thing worthwhile, our legacy of everlasting life?

The message is so simple. Armageddon is now! Truth versus error; virtue versus vice; spiritual values, real values versus materialism.

Prior to Adam, flesh was raised from dust and returned to dust, organic fertilizer! Even today, the house -- the chemical compound wherein spirit dwells for its brief stay on Earth -- ages, decays, and finally disintegrates. God did not make this animal. It bears no resemblance to His Image. He did not make the birds, trees, flowers, or form the composition of this globe. The Sovereign of the Universe is Spirit. Love, Truth, Wisdom, Power: Our spirit is in His likeness. Our bodies are in the likeness of our forefathers -- the Apes.

Our Lord Jesus Christ had a body, even as we. He knew of the lusts of the flesh, wrestled with them, and triumphed. There was no "evil spirit" with Him up in the wilderness. There is no such thing as an evil spirit. It was the carnal preconscious mind He conquered. The animal was hungry (lustful) "Command these stones be made bread," it ordered; and Jesus answered "Spirit shall be fed by the Word of God."

The animal wanted excitement, sensationalism, as do all animal minds. "Cast thyself down" it cried; and Jesus said, "Spirit is calm and at peace, I do not have to prove to Myself that My Father is all-powerful; I have faith, I will not be tempted to do these things of the flesh."

Then the animal Ego rose up within Him: "I will give you glory, Earthly salutations," thus self-adoring, satanic animal Ego, the same dominating Ego that stands today solidly between Man and The Master, the idol man worships, Self reared up in the mind of Jesus. "All the kingdoms of the World will I give thee if thou fall down and worship me," and the sweat poured off His brow, for forty days He had not eaten -- then saith The Incarnate to the carnal mind, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and Him only shalt thou serve."

Thus our Saviour showed us the way. He conquered His personal Satan, the flesh; and, as can come to each and every one of us after such purification, Jesus was then filled with the glow and peace of spiritual ascendency or, as He put it, the angels came and ministered unto Him. He was ready to begin His father's work, no longer bound by the animal desire which had distracted Him from His heavenly mission.

The inner power is that which raises man above mere animal level, though its force has been explored by only a few wise pioneers as yet.

Jesus' followers, and those who attempted to translate their words, did not fully understand His message, and in using poetic license have somewhat distorted the picture, somehow suggesting that Jesus accredited to God that which is of nature. Jesus said "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's," meaning: live by the law of nature for your animal requirements, and your reward shall be suitable.

Nothing material can be of the slightest use to Spirit, whose Kingdom is Spiritual, who in His Wisdom sent His Son to be born in a stable, who led, first of all, the shepherds to where the young child lay. None can say the meaning was obscure.

Render unto God that which is God's. For carnal man this is impossible, thus our present confusion and, in some, weak attempts at imitation. With God all things are possible. Know Him for what He is: Love, Truth, and Spirit -- all that is Good and Right.

How can you love what you do not understand? Pray for under-standing! Learn to know Him. Rid yourself of hallucinations, delusions of animal grandeur.

God is all-powerful. He doesn't need us -- we need Him!

For we are spiritual beings, living in a Universe governed by Spirit. The wise are dedicated to the spiritual objectives for which the Master created them.
