Science can do an excellent job of filling in the details, and as these matters have little spiritual significance, a broad out-line of evolutionary progress should be sufficient for this purpose.

The Formation of the Universe

Earth is some three billions of years old. For the larger part of this time it was too cold to support life in any form other than microscopic. It was devoid of matter masses as known today, and was much like planets that can be seen in the sky at night and the many millions more beyond our vision which make up a tremendous circle covering billions of miles.

Were one to look through the largest telescope built, and on noting the furthest visible star, could transport himself and the telescope thence, this process could be repeated seven times before the Earth would again be visible in the telescopic sights and the great circle of the stars completed.

Such is the domain of Our Father, Sovereign of the Universe.

Perhaps the nearest description of the original Earth would be to liken it to the moon as it is today.

It took about two and one-half billion years for the Earth to come close enough to the sun to begin to feel its heat. However, unlike the moon, the Earth revolved upon an axis as well as circling the sun; thus all parts of the Earth's surface had access to the sun's warmth.

For thousands of years stargazers have tried to probe the heavens for their secrets, wondering: How did the Earth come into being? How were the stars formed? Why are there so many different formations and groupings of stars? Why do some groups have suns and others none? Great thinkers expound theories only to have them later exploded by fact.

Infinite Mind knows all the answers and, in order to add force and verification to this explanation, has permitted several revelations.

In the beginning; that is, before the formation of the Universe as it is now, there was one huge, unimaginable-sized sphere that occupied the void of the heavens.

The gaseous explosion that caused this huge sphere to disintegrate is beyond human comprehension. However, this explosion did occur and was of such gigantic force that the whole sphere was shattered into millions of pieces, all of which went spinning off into space in a helter-skelter fashion, leaving a void in the place of the original sphere.

Thus the Universe was formed more than three billion years ago.

During their journey through space the white hot lumps began to revolve, gaining more heat with the momentum; becoming, in fact, as our galaxy did, molten masses, and again, as in our case, flinging off huge chunks of molten liquid while themselves continued to spin at tremendous speed. Such speed in fact that some have remained in a molten, liquid state, balled together by the speed of spinning. The whole -- that is, every piece that was flung off in the original cataclysmic explosion -- started a revolving journey around the heavens in a series of groups.

Some galaxies moved around a central figure; a sun. Some groups have two or more suns, but all groups circle around the space once occupied by the original sphere.

Do other planets sustain life? Yes -- and the Spirit of the Master is revered in these planets, the Lord of the Universe is humbly acknowledged. Are there other worlds capable of sustaining human life as we understand it? Again the answer is yes, but man shall not put foot on any of these worlds until he is fit, in-capable of pollution. Until all people respect the Universal Law and live in Grace.

The Formation of our Earth.

The molten mass that became our Earth was flung far out from its parent body, our sun. The distance was such that eventually Earth's outer crust cooled. Because it was too far from the heat of the parent body, and because the forward flinging motion slowed until it came to a stop, it slowly began a reverse journey toward the parent body.

The intense cold on the Earth's outer surface acted as a shield to prevent the inner core from cooling. The orbital, spinning motion of the Earth has caused it to re-approach the sun very slowly, the orbit not being a perfect circle but a very slight ellipse, so that on each turn about the sun the Earth's path is brought infinitesimally closer to the sun. The inner core remains intensely hot, a molten liquid mass, continuously bubbling and boiling, with rivers of molten metal travelling out from the inner lake, along channels, through cracks and crevices, finding weak places in the crust through which to push upward and outward.

The cooling Earth picked up microscopic life forms from the Universe which became the basis of all Earth's life.

Atmosphere was formed through the cooling processes and by the gasses given off during these processes.

The Evolution of the Human Species.

The evolution of the human species should be understood in order that man may understand himself, and how he became the spiritual-human being.

In the beginning, life was of the single-celled variety, feeding on microbes smaller than itself, mainly by absorption of its food, air, and water through the outer skin.

The single cell would grow large and fat, until the time would come when it was faced with the necessity of dying or dividing itself; division then took place.

In all this early development of life the handiwork of nature can be seen. A force that is not of spirit yet is a thought of Spirit in that The Master, seeing life upon this planet, allowed development of that life; thinking, in effect: There is microscopic life on Planet Earth: Let it develop as it will, and be governed by laws of natural evolution, creating laws within itself to rule itself, until it produces a life form suitable for spiritual life, as has happened on some of my other planets."

(N.B. The estimate of the Earth's age as three billion years does not take into account the years that passed while it was still part of the parent body, the sun, nor the time when it was travelling through space.)

Propulsion was developed in the search for food. About eight hundred million years ago the one-celled forms had reached the stage of multiplying by simple division. Nature was learning, and already making laws.

Slowly, in the course of the next several million years, the original shapeless, jelly-like, one-celled form became dual; then, eventually, multi-celled, adapting itself to change and shaping itself according to its environment (which was determined in part by the enemies which fed upon it), developing senses, and dele-gating these senses to various sections of its form.

Constant change was also occurring in the Earth's structure, causing changes in environment, and thereby adding to the necessity of change in the life forms.

The warming of the air about the Earth's crust as it continued its journey towards the sun, caused the ice-cap to melt by slow degrees, and the molten pressures on the inside were given opportunities for release.

Earthquakes occurred as the inner masses found weak places in the crust, and mountains pushed upwards, causing volcanoes which, in turn, created new plains and hollows, the latter to hold the great quantities of water that now came more and more into being.

These were times of great travail on the Earth as the molten masses shifted and boiled into existence. Mountains formed, lakes and rivers came into being, only to be changed again as the Earth twisted and turned in the struggle of its birth.

As the effects of the escaping inner heat combined with the increasing heat being felt from above, vapours formed into clouds as the Earth steamed and water vaporized. The snow and ice gradually disappeared from the equator of that age. Life on the surface of the Earth was impossible; the waters were the only place where life could exist.

Tremendous noises accompanied the Earth's birth as it continued its journey toward the sun and the warming trend released larger areas of the surface, permitting the life-forms, now multi-cellular to emerge from the water and spread across the land. The battle of ice and snow was being slowly but surely won, in spite of many setbacks in conjunction with the inner struggle of the molten masses demanding release and repeatedly changing the face of the Earth.

From six hundred and fifty million years forward, perhaps the greatest change occurred in the Earth's life-forms. The inner cooling process, having advanced rapidly, caused much less frequent change on the surface. The outer warming permitted vegetable growth and the original one-celled forms had changed, in many instances, from water to land dwellers.

The multicellular life-form had now become a bisexual creature, having developed both male and female glands within itself: It had shaped itself so that it was now able to feed by mouth, breathe through a set of lungs, and see where it was going, etc.

Even its reproductive habits were becoming established, in that it had either adopted an entirely new method of reproduction in the form of laying eggs, or had changed only slightly from the divisional system, using a method of direct birth.

Now it is known that all life on Earth had its beginning in the waters; yet, at some stage in development, certain life-forms had become accustomed to living out of the water, perhaps in order to escape enemies or to seek new types of food. These creatures, then, must of necessity have developed some form of thought process through a brain.

Initially, this development would have but one purpose: To motivate the body (as fish have a brain yet are incapable of thought). Therefore, the first brain development would be the conscious mind, which even today carries out the same function as it did in the beginning. It motivates the body.

There are still many forms of life from the single-celled on, to be found in or near the waters of the Earth.

Being primarily concerned with the human species, let us now take a look at him in the first stages; he was in no way similar to his present form, but was about the size of the smallest monkey specimens. The conscious mind was motivating the body, and gaining ascendency over the minds of the other animal forms.

The greatest change that ever occurred in the course of man's evolution was the separation of the sexes, now basic among all the higher forms of life. Gradually the male species lost certain glands and the females became more highly developed. As bisexual beings, they incorporated both a vagina and a penis; the latter developed in the male, and in the female, this organ receded and female reproductive organs evolved. The male breast receded and the females' developed. Examples of all these changes are in evidence today as the final separation of the sexes is still in progress and may take another half-million years to complete.

It is interesting to note that the fact that there were more developed creatures in the waters was the probable reason that many lesser life-forms searched for security on land.

These larger and better-oriented life-forms would feed upon anything edible; the shark and the denechtys, who found water life to their liking, were no doubt influenced by the fact that their size afforded them ample food among the millions of weaker creatures in earlier stages of development. These weaker forms, in an effort to escape, were forced to develop superior thought processes to survive. Thus the earliest and most advanced forms of life eventually became the least mentally advanced, having no necessity to think.

Evolution is progressive, never stationary. It took some three hundred million years of development to reach the stage at which creatures were living as much on the land as in the water, as certain types of snails do today.

Once life-forms such as snails and others, along with seaweeds and liverwort (originally a sea plant) in the vegetable kingdom, became established on land, the progress of evolution was accelerated, and in the next three hundred and fifty million years very rapid advances were made. Only such forms as the starfish and sponge (unpalatable) failed to develop, whereas the whale and shark types progressed rapidly in size and shape in accordance with their feeding habits, yet remain much the same today as mental progress was unnecessary for existence. The various species even formed different feeding habits while developing similarly in size and shape.

Then about two hundred million years ago came another great upheaval, causing severe damage and retardation to the land- dwelling life-forms, evidenced today by their fossilized remains sometimes found in coal seams.

By this time, the Earth's surface had became covered with forests of vegetation, carpeted with lower vegetable forms such as giant club moss, giant horsetail, and liverwort. Scorpions and cockroaches were in evidence and Dragonflies flew in the air.

Then, at the end of the Palaeozoic Age came the period which is now called the Ice Age, and again the surface of the Earth underwent further great changes. Once large land masses fell beneath the waters, mountains collapsed into themselves and other mountains were born.

Molten lava spilled over the surfaces and the air became polluted with smoke and gasses that effectively cut off the warming rays of the sun. Snow and ice began to form thicker and heavier. Glaciers were formed; sliding and slithering along, they swept all life before them, almost to the equator, where life did manage to survive in various ways.

One hundred and forty million years ago the reptiles were Earth's best-developed creatures, and it took another eighty million years for some of these types to change once again into mammalian form.

Among both the early reptiles and mammals, many developed to huge proportions - their great size becoming their eventual downfall. For they became too big to coexist harmoniously with nature; therefore, when feeding their huge bulks became too difficult, they became extinct.

Among the smaller life forms which were again developing (as they will continue to develop to the end of the Earth) was man. Thus, approximately one million years ago, man was becoming quite well established with one great difference from the majority of other species. Errors of evolution will correct themselves in nature's own good time. Bulk had brought about its own extinction, and nature now began to correct this error through the development of a more advanced brain to control and regulate the size of the life-form.

In the case of homo sapiens, this brain developed in two parts, the conscious, motivating brain, and later the preconscious mind, capable of thought.

By fifty thousand years B.C., man had become quite well established in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Though much of the Earth's surface was still covered with ice and snow, the glaciers were moving north and southwards again.

In this way, the Earth as we know it today was formed and populated, dominated by man, who had developed not so much in stature as in mentality. Though he was at this stage but a slightly more advanced form of life than the animals around him. He had progressed, however, to the point where he found for himself new methods of obtaining food; having evolved from a single-celled to a multicellular creature; and from a bisexual to a heterosexual species. He was similar, at this time, to our earliest Stone Age men; hairy, long-armed, possibly still partially tailed, bent only upon his food, sleep, procreation, and the fulfilment of his insatiable curiosity. He killed and was killed; he was quite incapable of distinguishing between right and wrong, any more than the other species of his time. Unaware of concepts of good and evil, he was conscious only of like and dislike, fear and triumph.

Picture not the great multitude of people who populate the Earth today, but various isolated, wandering tribes, much like tribes of apes. One powerful male with his harem heading the tribe, guarding it jealously, and dominating it mercilessly.

This was the way Infinite Mind found Earthlings. For the Sovereign of the Universe had constantly observed the progress of life on Earth, as in all His other inhabited planets. To Infinity the passage of time in millions of years was scarcely perceptible. He was pleased to find that nature had now evolved a form of life suitable for Universal Purpose; that is, a training ground for spirit, to better enable spirit to carry out its work in a much higher form of life after leaving the animal.

For this purpose. He chose one male infant, let's call him "Adam," and into this newly born, apelike male creature, He put spirit, a small portion of His own substance; invisible, imperishable, acceptable to Eternity. Thus Adam became the spiritual Son of God, his animal form in the form of his animal parents, his mind having all the instinctive animal lust and greed, yet with a spark of integrity within to raise him above his fellows.

Not to every male child on Earth was spirit given -- just to one; and not to any female - just to Adam. The Master ordained that from thenceforth every male child born to Adam, and their male heirs likewise, should be born with spirit.

In this way the Earth was gradually populated with spiritual-animal beings, Humane Beings.

It should be noted that the "Adam" referred to, differs from the Adam to whom Moses refers in the Bible, in that human intellect in 1962 A.D. is capable of receiving a more advanced version of the original basic facts. Today man's knowledge of the Earth is much more extensive -- the furthest corners of our globe are but hours away.

Moses accurately records the genealogy of his own race, the chosen race of The Master to enlighten all mankind, to give birth to His Son who would spread the word to the remainder, yet who was meant to be first, the Glory of Israel, the Teacher of the Jews.

Moses' Adam is a parable of the first spiritual "Adam" (man), for the animal mentality of mankind needs to be led gently along the path of understanding, through generations of patient example and demonstration.

Moses' Adam is historically recorded only a few thousand years before Noah and the great flood; at that time spiritual man was already far advanced along the road. In actual fact it had taken over seventy thousand years for man to develop from his original apelike form to the manlike form of Moses' Adam.

This aspect will be more thoroughly discussed in later chapters -- to spend time now on a lengthy dissertation would detract from the main thought. Parables are often the only way to express Universal Ideas, and have been used throughout all the world's theological writings.

The child Adam grew superior in both stature and mentality; the Book of Genesis (6:1-4) records:

And it came to pass, when men (spiritual) began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God (Adam's heirs) saw the daughters of men, that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh (animal): yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days (spiritual-animal men); and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

In these few lines, Moses tried to tell his illiterate flock this same story: the Sovereign of the Universe took man, a savage beast, and blessed him with His spirit. These spiritual men waxed stronger, surpassing the animal men around them, even the daughters of these men were improved in time through the wisdom and humane conduct of their fathers. The sons born of such unions were superior in both physique and mentality. The Master was well pleased.

The renown of these "sons of God" spread among men as yet not fortunate enough to have received the Inner Power. We are told how the spiritual-animal men took many wives and how their sons travelled to all parts of the livable world, mingling with women of other tribes, so that, eventually, from one seed, the whole male population of the Earth was spiritual; endowed with:

• (a) A Conscious Mind, receiving and obeying instructions.
• (b) A Preconscious Mind, capable of thought.
• (c) A Spiritual Mind, the Humane element.

It was not until seventy thousand years after the birth of "Adam" that Deity, on contemplating spiritual man's progress, saw that man needed a helpmate, and ordained that from thenceforward a portion of man's spirit be allotted to the female of the species.

Thus woman too became blessed with spirit, and has since risen from a position of a chattel, subservient to man, to her present status of a full-fledged humane partner for her mate.

The Master now wishes to convey most particularly His Message to Woman, for to her will fall the great responsibility of shaping future generations, establishing Humane-ity, His Kingdom on Earth.
