Every day from the time that we are born, we open up our memory files to store pieces of information to help us cope with what is going on in the world around us. We hear things, we see things, we smell things, we taste and feel things. We put all this information together and this is how we learn about the facts of life and how to get along.
Our ancestors did the same thing. They looked around and wondered what was going on. They expressed their ideas in many ways. In paintings, sculpture, art, architecture, music, poems, and in making all the things that have been invented the things that we have come to enjoy and to rely on in the 20th Century. Our ancestors had wonderful visions of how things would be in the world when the work was all finished. In this course we will be taking a look back in time to see some of their visions and think about the things they had to say. We will try to follow their long journey of mind and see where it may lead, and how it may help us today. Philosophy is a very old form of exercise for the inquiring mind. It is like entering a "Hall of Riddles" where we stay until we have all the answers figured out. We are each born with a keen sense of curiosity, and it helps to look at the trail that has been left behind by our forefathers. The name "Philosophy" comes from the Greek word "philosophos" which means "lover of wisdom." For this reason, the Greek "Goddess of Wisdom" is called "Sophia" which can be traced back to the word "Ain Soph" which means light... [24 lessons, 27 minuts each]
